Windsong Sonoma HOA is currently working on modernizing and adapting landscape areas to comply with the new California Assembly Bill (AB) 1572. This bill prohibits the use of drinking (potable) water to irrigate “nonfunctional turfgrass” on commercial, industrial, institutional, and HOA properties statewide.
The HOA has formed a volunteer landscape committee made up of homeowners with a passion for landscape and the properties appearance.
The first “test” area which has been completed consists of the space along the back of the clubhouse, along the gym side, and the area along the tennis court/bbq area. The HOA secured a ($3000) grant from the city of Rohnert Park’s Cash for Grass program to assist in the redo of this area. We have currently secured a second round of the grant funding and are working on another area.
The main garden area consist of native plants and this area is our butterfly garden – much thanks to the landscape committee for their volunteer time designing this area and procuring the plant varieties.
The new seating area in the large lawn area consists of redwood picnic tables made locally by inmates in the Sonoma County jail system.
